How to Stay Inspired as a Content Creator

In the age of digital marketing, content creation feels like a never ending race. It’s easy to get caught up in the hustle and grind, and lose sight of what inspired you to create content in the first place. If you are struggling to find inspiration for your content or feeling burned out and unmotivated, don’t worry, you’re not alone.

A lot of content creators struggle with this issue. It could be because you’re in a creative rut, or because you’re putting too much pressure on yourself to produce perfect content. Whatever the reason, here are 8 tips to get you out of this funk and stay inspired as a content creator.

What is a Content Creator?

Before we dive into tips to keep you feeling inspired let’s touch on what a content creator is and what they do. A content creator is someone who produces and distributes online material such as videos, blogs, articles, or podcasts.

When brands started noticing how beneficial it was to be on social media the need to be able to produce content regularly and consistently increased dramatically. Especially when Instagram introduced stories and reels. Now there is almost a constant need for content.

This is a lot of pressure for one person or team, which is why it’s so important to find ways to stay inspired in your work. Otherwise, it’s easy to get bogged down and lose sight of why you’re doing this in the first place.

Tips for Staying Inspired

Tip #1 - Get involved in your community.

There’s nothing like being around other creatives to jump start your own creativity. Attend meetups, workshops, or networking events. You’ll be surprised at how much inspiration you can find by surrounding yourself with like-minded individuals.

Follow fellow creatives on social media and  engage with their content. The more you immerse yourself in your community, the easier it will be to find ideas for your own content.

Tip #2 - Take a break from social media.

Social media can be both a blessing and a curse for content creators. On one hand, it’s an amazing platform to share your work and connect but on the other hand, it can be a huge time suck and source of comparison.

If you find yourself scrolling through Instagram for hours without getting anything done, or if you find yourself feeling overly critical about your work, it might be time to take a break. Disconnecting from social media will help you focus on other things and might even inspire you to come up with new content ideas.

Tip #4 - Keep a notebook or journal with you.

You never know when inspiration will strike so it’s important to be prepared.

Keep a small notebook or journal with you at all times and jot down any ideas that come to mind, no matter how big or small. This will help you capture your ideas before they slip away and provide a reference point for when you’re feeling stuck. We know it’s 2022… your notes app on your phone will work great for jotting down what inspires you.

Tip #5 - Set some structure for your content creation.

If you find yourself feeling uninspired, it might be because you don’t have a clear plan or vision for your content. Try setting some structure for your content creation process.

This could mean brainstorming ideas ahead of time, scheduling specific days or times to create content, or batching your content creation. Having a plan will help you feel more organized and motivated to create.

Tip #6 - Get outside!

Sometimes the best way to find inspiration is to explore the world around you. Take a walk, go on a hike, or visit a new place. The fresh air and change of scenery will do wonders for your creativity. Don’t forget to bring your notebook with you!

Tip #7 - Get Your Adrenaline Pumping.

Did you know that adrenaline can actually help increase your creativity? If you’re feeling stuck, try doing something to get your adrenaline pumping. This could be anything from working out to watching a scary movie. The key is to find something that gets your heart rate up and gets you out of your head.

Tip #8 - Take a break.

Like, a real break. Get out of town, use some of that PTO and go on a vacation. This will help you clear your head, recharge, and come back feeling refreshed and ready to create. If you don’t have THAT much time to get away or vacation isn’t realistic at the moment, just going for a drive or stepping away from your desk for a bit can do wonders.

Tip #9 - Get out of your comfort zone and try new things!

Trying new things is a great way to find inspiration. It can be anything from trying a new recipe, learning a new skill, or exploring a different creative medium. Stepping outside of your comfort zone will help you find new ideas and ways to approach your content. It might be scary, but that’s a good thing!

Tip #10 - Read (or watch) something inspiring before you start creating.

Just like listening to music can help you get in the right headspace, reading or watching something inspiring can do the same. Whether it’s a blog post, book, or TED talk, find something that gets you excited about your topic and use it as motivation for your own content.

Don't Fall into the Comparison Trap

As a content creator, it’s easy to get caught up in the comparison game. With social media, we have access to more content than ever before which can be both good and bad. It’s good because we can find new ideas and get inspired but it’s bad because it’s so easy to compare our work to others and feel like we’re not good enough.

If you find yourself feeling discouraged or uninspired, it’s important to take a step back and remember that everyone’s journey is different. Take the time to celebrate your own achievements, no matter how big or small, and focus on your own progress!
